Festa dei Burdùgn

Si dice che quando l’epidemia di peste fu finita, per ringraziare la Madonna per la guarigione gli abitanti di Cambiesso, non avendo nulla da donare e vivendo del raccolto che riuscivano ad avere, offrirono all’incanto le rape frutto del loro lavoro. Da quel momento ogni anno, inizialmente ad agosto, poi a fine '700 a maggio, e successivamente - e tuttora - la terza domenica di ottobre, si ripete la festa dei burdùgn, ovvero delle rape, che vengono appese a due a due, legate tra loro con le foglie non distaccate, lungo il ferro della fontana ad arco che si trova nella piazzetta della chiesa di Cambiesso. Inoltre le persone portano doni di qualsiasi genere decorandoli con rape, nonché come in molti altri paesi della valle dove si conservano le feste patronali, galline, conigli e frutti della terra che vengono messi all’incanto.

According to tradition, when the plague was over, to thank the Virgin Mary for the healing, the inhabitants of Cambiesso, having nothing to donate and living off their harvest, offered by auction the turnips, the fruit of their work. From that moment every year, at first in August, then at the end of the eighteenth century in May, and later- and still today – on the third Sunday of October, the Festival of the Burdùgn, that is, of the turnips, takes place, during which the turnips are hung two by two, tied to each other with their leaves, along the iron arch of the fountain that is located in the square of the church of Cambiesso. On that occasion, people bring gifts of any kind, decorating them with turnips and, like in many other villages of the valley where the patronal feasts are celebrated, with hens, rabbits and fruits of the earth, which are all put up for auction.
