The votive chapel in Cresta was built by Pasquale Massera known as Bordone in May 1824.

He emigrated to Eastern Europe, according to some people to Poland, according to others to Bohemia, where he worked in the mine; in the rubble of a church destroyed by a fire he found the beautiful icon of a Black Madonna with Child, the only artefact saved from destruction. He decided to build a chapel dedicated to that sacred image, dating back to the 17th/18th century, which recalls the Madonna of Czestochowa. Back home, after a period of illness, he built a chapel.

Then the chapel was enlarged and restored twice, in 1858 and 2014. In the meantime, and precisely in 1961, the painting, which was in poor condition, was restored by Prof. Severino Bellotti, in Milan by the Pirovini sisters who identified its artistic value, and remained exposed for a long time in a church in Milan.

By the will and initiative of the heirs, it returned to Cossogno as a donation to the parish by the heirs of the Massera Pasqualot Sisters. Throughout the month of May 1989 the priest Don Marino Piffero kept it exposed and then placed it in a niche of the parish church. Unfortunately a few months later, at the end of October 1989, it was stolen by unknown and no longer found.
