Costume tradizionale femminile

“In Aurano and in the hamlet of Scareno there were two traditional dresses: that of the feast day, very simple, with sober colours, and that of the bride, preferably black adorned with lace, with a skirt pleated on the back and simple on the front. On her head she wore the “panètt” with fringes or hat with rows of beads”, a description taken from the book “Tanti superbi modi di ornarsi”.

The dress of Aurano was reconstructed for the first time in the second half of the last century by “Le Genzianelle”, a folklore group of Aurano.  The group took part in numerous public events wearing a traditional dress. It consisted of a long dark skirt with bottom edges, a white shirt with a red waistcoat buttoned up on the front and a headscarf with floral motifs. The historical dresses had darker and less flamboyant colours, with a one-piece dress, without sleeves, and a small floral motif, a white shirt and an apron.
