Antica Osteria

In the main square of Cossogno there is a beautiful four-story building dating back to the 18th century – called in the local dialect el palazi – with the inscription “Osteria Cossogno” in the facade.

Over the years it did not change its use and today it houses a restaurant on the ground floor, although it no longer has an important role in the life of the community, which was much larger in the past when  weddings and anniversaries were celebrated.

A curious element: in a lunette above the entrance the Trinity is painted according to the ancient iconography of the sixteenth-century fresco of the Sanctuary of the Holy Trinity of Ghiffa: three identical figures of Christ, sitting at a table with three chalices, with their left hand on the globe with a cross and lifting their right hand in the act of blessing.

On the top, the facade is embellished by a sundial without gnomon, with the sun depicted as a human face and the inscription “il bel fabbricare fa il dolce impoverire - the beautiful making makes the sweet impoverish”.
