Between the residential area of Trontano and the hamlet of Verigo, next to the stone bridge over the Rio Graglia, the area called Mulìt (“mills” in the local dialect) houses six mills lined up along a stream of water, used in the past to grind cereals, especially rye. The current buildings date back to the end of the 17th century, probably they were erected on the remains of more ancient mills: they are operated by a horizontal hydraulic wheel of  wood, moved by the water jet, to which a vertical shaft connected to the upper grinder is fixed. Above, there is a feeding hopper from which the grains come thanks to slight vibrations transmitted by the movement of the grinder. Abandoned since the second post-war period, they are today in an excellent state of preservation thanks to a recovery intervention in 2005 with a project known as “Il ciclo della segale” (the rye cycle). The mills provided an essential service for the life of the community, since they ensured its economic independence, as well as an element for social aggregation for the community life.
