Verigo

Verigo, a hamlet once inhabited all year long and today almost uninhabited, is a historic centre where the traditional stone architecture has been well preserved through time. The most ancient buildings, dating back to the 15th century, have large squared stones, while the most recent ones have smaller and irregular stones. There are numerous windows framed in granite slabs, with semi-elliptical or triangular lintels, often engraved with ancient symbols. Verigo is populated every spring in May for the traditional rural festival of San Gregorio, after whom the seventeenth-century oratory of the village is named. It can be reached from the main road of Trontano as well as by the train of the Vigezzina railway line, with the corresponding stop in the typical station.
